CYANOTYPE

Cyanotype is the earliest form of printing photographs without a camera. It is also called cameraless photography. It was invented in 1842 by Sir John Herschel. This form of art has turned out to be one of my favourite forms. It allows you to be in touch, physically and emotionally, with the work. You collect the items, you mix the solution, you coat that paper, and wait. And the wait gives you these beautiful colors of white and blue, showing you the intricate details and traces of the items. I have been trying to make traces of flowers and leaves I have collected over the years on my trips. I knew I was saving them for something.

A friend introduced me to this form of photography and Anna Atkins, who is a botanist and photographer. Anna used her knowledge and these techniques to record, trace, and study plants. The color blue reminds me of water, of the ocean, my favorite place. It is a document, a trace of each of them. I hope you love the details as much as I do.
